First of all, we will be having our first Discipleship Training School (DTS) here in the fall! This is a great opportunity if you either feel a call to fulltime missions, or if you would like to spend five months really focusing on God and His heart for you. Check out this video to hear more about it and let us know if you're interested:
We went to the Malecón (or Boardwalk) in San Pedro three weeks ago to intercede and pray for the city. We asked God what His plan was for ministry there. As we were praying, a couple street kids walked up to us and we were able to start talking to them. Most of us had sensed that there was a feeling of hopelessness among these kids. One of our staff felt like she should start a soup kitchen once a week for these boys. We started doing that the following week and have seen about 20 boys come weekly to receive a hot meal and love from all of us. In the future, we'd love to bring teaching, share the Bible with them and show them how much God loves them. This is also probably one of the only good meals they get.
We continue to be very involved in ministry with the local Haitian community. We have also been able to start a water distribution project with the help of a one of the churches. We are able to sell water for about half the price the local vendors sell it for. This way, the families are able to buy more water, keeping their kids healthier and stronger. We go out twice a week and sell on average to about 50 families each day.
If either of these ministries (the Malecón or Haitian Community) touch your heart and you would like to start supporting these special areas, you can make a donation through Youth With a Mission online here. You can just add a separate note at the bottom mentioning the ministry you would like to help. ("Support for Malecón San Pedro DR" or "Support for Haitian Community San Pedro DR".) All donations are tax-deductible.
Blessings to each one of you! May you be filled with God's love, hope and peace this week. We love you!
